Africa’s Shining Star, Rocky Dawuni is set to perform a full band show in honor of
(RED)’s 1-Year Anniversary Celebration (www.joinred.com)
at Afro Funke’on Thursday, October 18, 2007.
Rocky Dawuni is one of Africa’s most popular musicians whose live performances have often been called legendary and whose popularity spans the globe. Rocky is currently blazing new paths with his CD Book of Changes, a progressive fusion of Reggae, Afro Beat, traditional African sounds, and Hip Hop neo-griotism which has been dubbed “infectious” and “a classic” by tastemakers including KCRW, BBC and Radio Nova. Many of the tracks from Book of Changes have been licensed by smash hit series such as Showtime’s “Weeds” and “Dexter” as well as NBC’s “ER.”
Rocky recently completed a tour of Ghana with Elle MacPherson on behalf of (RED) and the Global Fund. The visit was to announce the grant of 6.4 million dollars to provide HIV / AIDS treatment. (RED) was founded by U2 front man Bono and Bobby Shriver to harness the power of some of the world’s most iconic brands in the fight against HIV / AIDS.
2007 has been a tremendous year of action for the musician /activist having just completed a successful tour of Israel where heperformed with Israeli star Mosh Ben Ari. His annual “Rocky Dawuni’s Independence Splash” concert held on March 6thfor Ghana’s Independence Day, attracted over 40, 000 people at La Pleasure Beach in Accra, Ghana. Prior to the concert, Rockytraveled extensively in the northern part of the country with UNICEF to bring attention to clean water and sanitation.
Rocky is currently featured on the highly successful Warner Brother’s release “Instant Karma: Amnesty InternationalCampaign To Save Darfur” Deluxe Edition which also features covers of John Lennon songs by global stars including Black Eyed Peas, U2, Christina Aguilera, Green Day, Ben Harper and Jack Johnson. Rocky’s song “Wake the Town” will be featured on video giant EA’s forthcoming
FIFA 2008 video game.
